Opportunites in Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Market

Bangladesh is quickly developing into one of the more attractive emerging markets in Asia, and global investors have begun turning their attention to the Bay of Bengal. The country is the eighth‑most populous country in the world, with a population of 165 million people. Economic growth has been steady over the past decade, with average annual GDP growth of 6.9% per annum between 2011 and 2019. With a quickly growing middle class, the country has made great progress in reducing poverty and attained World Bank’s lower-middle-income status in 2015. Bangladesh is primed new developments with growing energy and infrastructure needs. Growing consumer buying power has also led to rapidly growing demands for new technologies and high end consumer retail products.

Notably, Bangladesh has been dubbed by The Economist as the new 'Asian Tiger', and in conjunction with a young median population age, an increasingly educated youth workforce with an orientation towards technical knowledge  it becomes understandable why the country has seen continuous years of record foreign investment. In many ways, Bangladesh's economic emergence mirrors regional power India -- both have a young labour force that shows an inclination towards tech-based education, high levels of interest in business development and entrepreneurship from local sources, and scope for significant rapid market growth with ever increasing internet and formal market penetration. By 2025 the Bangladeshi middle class is expected to reach a size of over 34 million people.

Young and Skilled Labour

One key element of economic growth in Bangladesh is that the workforce is quite young, with the median age of the country being just over 27. This is paired with a growing STEM-educated community has made Dhaka and Jessore popular outsourcing hubs for European firms.
